A Note on the Work

A Note on Myth

On working with symbol, and staying on the ground while you do.

Everything I offer — astrology, tarot, myth, the readings, the Circle — uses symbol as an instrument. Symbol is powerful precisely because it speaks to the part of us beneath argument, the part that organizes a life before we have words for it. That power is the gift. It is also the reason this work asks for care.

So I want to say plainly what these instruments are, and what they are not.

A chart, a card, a myth is a lens — a way of looking that can make a pattern visible. It is not a verdict, not a prophecy, and not an authority that stands above your own lived knowing. Nothing I read to you is meant to replace your judgment, your relationships, your medical or mental-health care, or your responsibility for your own life. If a reading ever seems to ask you to abandon those, that is the moment to set it down.

The symbol is a map.
You are the one walking.

The Care It Asks

The founding myth of this work names two shadows, and they are exactly the shadows to watch for here. The loop — returning to the symbolic so often that it becomes a place to hide from ordinary life. And the race — reaching so far into meaning that you lose the ground you were reaching from. Symbolic work goes wrong in precisely these two ways: it becomes an escape, or it becomes a fixation.

The whole discipline is learning to fly toward the pattern and then return — to let the height show you something, and to bring it back down into embodied, relational, responsible life. A reading that leaves you more grounded, more in contact with your actual world, is working. One that leaves you more dependent, more frightened, or more removed from your life is not.

Signs it's time to set the work down for a while:

When symbol feels more real than the people around you. When you are consulting the cards or the chart before every choice. When a reading increases fear rather than clarity. When the pattern feels like fate you cannot move within. When you are using the height to avoid the ground.

None of these mean you have failed. They mean the instrument has done its work and it is time to return — to rest, to people, to the body, to the ordinary.

I hold this work as an educator and a practitioner, not as a medical or mental-health professional. If you are in real distress, symbol is not the right instrument — a doctor, a therapist, or a crisis line is. That is not a lesser path. It is the responsible one, and choosing it is itself the practice: returning to the ground when the ground is what you need.

Read the pattern.
Return to your life.
That is the whole of it.
